Campdraft doco set to premiere

WARWICK Show and Rodeo Society is giving the residents of Warwick the Hollywood treatment with an invitation to the launch of The Great Australian Campdraft.

Centred around the Warwick Gold Cup, this documentary focuses and explores the ins and outs of Australia's second biggest horse sport.

The movie is a suited to anyone, even those with no previous campdraft knowledge, as the documentary explores the sport's unique culture.

The producer and director couple of Palatine Productions Sharen Kenny and Ian Withnall themselves learnt about this exciting sport while making the film.

Staying with close family friends Damien and Bridget Curr on their cattle station inspired the couple to shoot the film.

Ian says: "I stood at the rail next to the first peg, and through my lens a big, powerful horse with a large and powerful Australian on its back shouldered a large and powerful beast around the peg at a full gallop. It blew me away."

Packed full of stunning scenery and fascinating characters, many of whom work the distant plains and ranges of Australia's far flung cattle stations, the film captures the true spirit of the heart of Australia.

One particularly beautiful scene is the history of the sport, seen through the eyes of Ashley McKay, a third generation cattleman from Torres Park near Augathella, with some wonderful colour historical footage from 1935.

Not to be missed, The Great Australian Campdraft Directors' Cut DVD will be previewed on Wednesday, October 24, 7pm, at the Warwick Showgrounds during the lead up to the competition for The Warwick Gold Cup on the Sunday.

The documentary will be broadcast on Landline on Sunday, October 28, at noon.
