International optical retailer Specsavers to open doors to new Warwick store within months, joining ranks of major Rose City retailers

This household brand name has set its sights on the Rose City, with plans to open the new store in only a few months making it the latest in a growing number of major retailers to set up shop in town.

“Should have gone to Specsavers!” is the advertising slogan known in almost every Australian household, and is about to become a reality for Warwick residents as the international retailer sets up shop in town.

The budget optometrist will be the latest major retailer to open its doors in Rose City Shoppingworld, taking over the space at the Coles end of the centre formerly occupied by Southern Downs Skin and Laser Clinic.

Rose City Shoppingworld marketing manager Louise de Lissa said it was full steam ahead on the store fit out, with hopes it would be ready to trade as soon as early August.

“I think it’s great Specsavers have done their research and come to the realisation they could play an important part in the area,” Ms de Lissa said.

“We haven’t had an optometrist here for a couple of years, so it will definitely fill that gap and be beneficial to the centre, and obviously to the town as well.

“For our market you go from children right through to the older market looking for that service, (and) people usually travel to Toowoomba for Specsavers, so it’ll be great to have them here in Warwick.”

Specsavers will join fellow major brand names such as Kaisercraft, Surf Dive n Ski, and Kmart in setting up shop in the Rose City, undeterred by the COVID curveballs thrown at regional retailers in the past 12 months.

Founded in the UK in 1984 and now with almost 400 stores across Australia and New Zealand, Specsavers remains one of the market leaders in the optometry sector.

Specsavers Queensland director Jason Cooper said the new store’s team would be looking to create a number of retail jobs for those with experience in optics and exceptional customer service skills.

“Specsavers is dedicated to the needs of everyone in the country … (and) we’re excited to be expanding our store network and offering our high level of service and care to the Warwick community,” Mr Cooper said.
