Warwick residents can shop up a storm right here in town this Christmas at an epic new event driven by the community’s business frontrunners.
Downtown Christmas is set to light up Palmerin Street on Monday, December 20, bringing together dozens of main street businesses and small retailers from across Warwick and the wider region.
Organiser and Everly Lane owner Dani Watts said she was motivated to bring the event to life after realising Christmas sales had taken a downturn at her own and neighbouring stores.
“I’ve been a lot quieter than usual and some other people I’ve spoken to have said the same, and it’s obviously to do with Covid as we’re right on the border and not getting those customers coming over,” she said.
“It’s just something for Warwick, too. People head to Toowoomba to do their shopping and go out for dinner, and this is just something for Warwick families to get out and do and support the local community.”
Inspired by the success of similar Warwick events such as Jingle and Mingle, Mrs Watts said she was hoping to make the night out an affair for the whole family.
She said online businesses and retailers from other parts of Warwick would set up stalls down Palmerin Street to give shoppers even more handmade and unique items to choose from.
“Great for Christmas presents, and I think a lot of the stores will be good little gifts to put in stocking fillers, last-minute presents for someone who unexpectedly bought you a gift, or something for the neighbour,” Mrs Watts said.
“We’re hoping to get a bit of entertainment like a singer or busker, I might even see if I can try to source some things for kids like face-painting.”
Also aiming to support the region’s food vendors should space allow, Mrs Watts said she wanted the night to bring the community together for a final festive celebration in the lead-up to Christmas.
“Obviously my main aim is to support the storefronts in town, that was my vision behind it, but having the small businesses out the front will help bring more customers in,” Mrs Watts said.
“I think the biggest thing is businesses all have to support each other. It’s not a competition to try to get the most sales, it’s about supporting one another because we’re a small community.”
Downtown Christmas will run from 4pm – 8pm on Monday, December 20 along Palmerin Street.
