Bookworms challenge

STUDENTS from Warwick primary schools have been busy reading in preparation for the sixth annual Warwick State High School Readers Challenge.

STUDENTS from Warwick primary schools have been busy reading over the past two terms in preparation for the sixth annual Warwick State High School Readers Challenge.

Four Year 9 students from the high school worked with teacher Kristy Caterson to put this year's challenge together.

Student Jaron Clark said there was a record number of teams at this year's challenge.

"There are 21 teams this year," he said.

"The teams are made up of Year 6 and 7 students from the local primary schools.

"We picked the books and came up with the questions."

Student Joe Greenaway said he hoped it went well.

"We are mostly hoping to make it the best one yet for all the competitors," he said.

"It took us two terms to read the books and we've been working on it for a while."

The books selected by the four students were: The Hobbit, The Refugee, The Legend of the Golden Sail and Pizza Cake.

Brendan Austin said his favourite book was The Refugee.

"It is a true story about refugees coming here," he said.

Aisling Pryor enjoyed The Hobbit the most.

The winner will be published in tomorrow's paper.
