Angry man dodges jail for attacks on women

A WARWICK man attacked two women in fits of anger and this week he was handed a suspended jail sentence for his crimes.

A WARWICK man attacked two women in fits of anger and this week he was handed a suspended jail sentence for his crimes.

Jason Cory Brackin hit one of the women in the head while on a night out at a Warwick hotel and he threw a drink at the head of the other.

The Warwick Magistrates Court on yesterday heard Brackin encountered one of his victims - an 18-year-old New South Wales woman visiting Warwick - just after midnight on July 7.

CCTV showed Brackin speaking with the woman briefly before walking away, only to return a short time later and strike her in the head.

He did not know the woman before the attack.

Security officers struggled with the 24-year-old father of one as they tried to detain him, but he broke free and ran off.

In a separate incident one month earlier, Brackin became enraged with an employee of a Warwick real estate business.

Police prosecutor Steve de Lissa told the court Brackin visited the 50-year-old's workplace to inquire about renting a property.

When the woman told him he had not been successful, Brackin became abusive and hurled a McDonald's drink container at her head, causing the drink to spill over her.

Snr Const de Lissa said the employee was upset by the attack.

"It would have been quite concerning to have something thrown at her and be abused in that manner," Snr Const de Lissa said.

The court heard Brackin was no stranger to crimes of violence and in 2009 was sentenced to three-and-a-half-years jail for his part in a drunken brawl, which ended with a man being stabbed by another offender.

Brackin this week pleaded guilty to assault and causing a disturbance and was sentenced to three months jail, which was wholly suspended for 12 months.
