A major highway and vital bridge connection southwest of Brisbane remain closed hours after a section of a wind turbine became wedged under an overpass.
All westbound lanes of the Warrego Highway remain closed near Ipswich after the turbine, which was being carried west on the back of a truck, slammed into the Mt Crosby bridge.
A Queensland Police spokesman advised that the westbound lanes of the Warrego Highway at North Tivoli were still closed as a result of the crash.
The wind turbine has yet to be removed from the scene and it is understood that it will take some time to do so.
There appears to be significant damage to the road surface.
As of 10.30am, traffic has banked up 8km along the Warrego Highway from the crash site.
