Wallaby in Gold Coast backyard impaled by arrow to the chest

Photos have emerged of a wallaby in a Southeast backyard with an arrow skewered through its chest, leaving wildlife advocates horrified.

Wildlife supporters have been left horrified after a wallaby was impaled by an arrow on the Gold Coast.

Photos shared online showed the wallaby foraging in a backyard in the hinterland suburb of Tallai with an arrow skewered through its chest.

Wildcare Australia trauma responder Amy De Boer said herself and her team attended the report that an arrow had hit a wallaby.

“Sadly this isn’t the first time we have seen wildlife hit by arrows,” she said.

Ms De Boer said the arrow had been dislodged and the wallaby was roaming freely with no signs of distress.

“We know the wallaby has been able to remove the arrow which is great,” Ms De Boer said.

“The next step is just keeping an eye on it. If we notice the wallaby begin to deteriorate we will intervene and treat it.

A Facebook post of the photo generated hundreds of comments, with many expressing their anger and disbelief.

“How could someone do such a cruel, heartbreaking thing to a beautiful innocent animal?” wrote Gina Dennison.

Others called for community members to reveal the identity of those responsible.

“Bad enough that this has happened,” wrote Sue Kilroe.

“But would be even worse if someone knows who did it and won’t put their name forward.”
