Violinist Richard Pollett killed during visit to hometown Brisbane to play with Queensland Symphony Orchestra

VIOLINIST Richard Pollett had the world at his feet when he was killed during a visit to his hometown of Brisbane to play with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

VIOLINIST Richard Pollett had the world at his feet when he was killed during a visit to his hometown of Brisbane to play with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra late last month.

The state's musical fraternity has been left shattered, and police are still uncertain about what happened on the day the brilliant young musician, 25, was hit by a cement truck as he rode his bike along Moggill Rd.

Pollett, whose bike and body were left mangled at the scene, was killed instantly in the accident on September 27.

He had been in Brisbane to visit his parents, Philip and Patricia Pollett, but also to play as soloist with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in the Australian premiere of the work Selenite City, a concerto for piano and violin.

The concert will go ahead this weekend and will feature a new work dedicated to the young violinist, written by composer Elena Kats-Chernin in the days following his sudden death.

Pollett's violin teacher and close family friend Michele Walsh said that he was a uniquely talented musician who lived to perform.

"He was an outstandingly talented young man whose playing touched people whenever they heard him," she said.

"He had a very, very bright future in Australia and internationally."

Police from the metropolitan Forensic Crash Unit have renewed their call for more information on Pollett's death, asking for witnesses who may have seen the crash to come forward. No one has been charged over the incident.

Pollett's parents and friends established the Richard Pollett Memorial Award with the Australian Youth Orchestra to honour his memory and to provide support and encouragement to young violinists.
