Australian actor Travis Fimmel will star in new drama series Black Snow, which is filming in North Queensland.

Production is underway on the Stan original series, which also stars Brooke Satchwell, Alexander England and Erik Thomson.

Fimmel, of Vikings fame, plays a Detective in a small town in North Queensland who opens the cold case of an unexplained murder of a 17-year-old girl in 1995.

Black Snow also stars Queensland newcomers Talijah Blackman-Corowa, Jemmason Power and Molly Fatnowna in breakthrough roles.

The small town of Ashford in the series has deep ties to the Australian South Sea Islander community and the series will also feature the screen debut of Australian music sensation and First Nations activist Ziggy Ramo.

With production underway, Fimmel was spotted at Airlie Beach at the weekend, snapping photos with locals at a popular pub.

Black Snow is supported by Screen Queensland’s Screen Finance Program while it received major production investment from Screen Australia in association with Stan.

“It’s a privilege to be making this exceptionally crafted drama alongside the Australian South Sea Islander community of North Queensland,” Goalpost Television’s Rosemary Blight said.

“We have an incredibly talented creative team … and a wonderful cast that combines the experience and stature of actors such as Travis Fimmel with exciting new discoveries such as Talijah Blackman-Corowa and Jemmason Power.”

Screen Queensland boss Kylie Munnich said the screen body was “deeply committed to empowering and uplifting diverse voices, and we look forward to seeing this powerful series come to life, currently filming in North Queensland.”

It comes as international feature film Wizards! starring Pete Davidson and Orlando Bloom continues filming in Far North Queensland.
