WALK THROUGH: Bushfires destroy Binna Burra Lodge

IT’S been a getaway spot for generations of Queenslanders and interstate visitors and one of the highest-profile losses of the state’s most recent bushfire disaster.

The famous 86-year-old Binna Burra Lodge was gutted by a devastating blaze that police now say is being treated as suspicious.

Eleven homes were also destroyed.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk visited the Lodge site yesterday, and pleaded with tourists to continue to visit the area.

A tourism campaign is planned to lure people back once the dangers of the fires passes.

Blazes are still burning in the Gold Coast hinterland, along with dozens more around the state.

Plans are under way to rebuild the historic building.
