One of Brisbane’s most spectacular views is up for grabs to become the ultimate dining destination for one lucky local restaurant.
Brisbane City Council has kicked off the hunt to find a tenant to fill the coveted spot on the new Kangaroo Point Green Bridge.
There are two leases up for offer on the new 460m green bridge, including a restaurant and bar that will be elevated above the bridge deck on the approach to the city landing, and a cafe.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the registration of interest process had officially begun with the council looking for restaurant owners to come up with innovative ideas to secure the coveted 400sq m spot.
“Just as we transformed Howard Smith Wharves, the Kangaroo Point Green Bridge will be Brisbane’s next iconic destination and this is a chance to be part of something really special,” he said.
“When complete, Kangaroo Point Green Bridge will be a vital link between the CBD and Kangaroo Point, offering a new vantage point for surroundings including the river, Story Bridge, Kangaroo Point Cliffs and City Botanic Gardens.”
There will also be the 100sq m spot available for a cafe on a new urban plaza being created where Edward and Alice streets meet the river.
The bridge, which will land between the City Botanical Gardens and Thornton St, Kangaroo Point, is expected to be completed by 2024.
“Securing one of these leases is a chance to create a must-do hospitality experience for local residents and visitors as well as people around the world,” Mr Schrinner said.
“We’re expecting to receive some incredibly competitive proposals and are excited to see the outstanding vision hospitality operators, both homegrown and international, will have for the sites.”
The bridge is expected to take more than 6100 walking, cycling and e-mobility trips by the time it is built, with council planning on it becoming a staple tourist spot in Brisbane.
“Come the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, we’ll also see thousands of games-goers travel between the Gabba Stadium and the CBD on this bridge,” Mr Schrinner said.
Work on the bridge started earlier this year, with Mr Schrinner saying in February he would be interested in showcasing it by including it in the marathon or torch relay route.
The two tenancies will be offered separately or together, with interested parties asked to register to council by noon on Friday, July 8.
