Two people have been injured and a rescue helicopter dispatched after a two-vehicle crash in the Brisbane Valley.
An ambulance spokeswoman said two people – a 43-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman – had reported chest and back pain after the incident, which happened on the Brisbane Valley Highway south of Moombra about 5.50pm Sunday.
Moombra sits near the top of the western edge of Lake Wivenhoe.
The male patient had reported pain on the left side of his chest, while the woman told paramedics that she experienced what paramedics later described as “thoracic back pain”, meaning that the pain is localised to the upper back adjacent to the chest.
A rescue helicopter arrived at the scene shortly after 7pm.
“I’d expect that the man will be the one airlifted because if the woman has sustained spinal injuries, a ride in a helicopter might do more harm than good,” an ambulance spokeswoman said.
The incident was initially reported at 5.50pm, but subsequent conflicting triple-0 calls made assessing the situation complicated, with Fire and Rescue officials opting to send four trucks.
“We were first told that someone was trapped in their car, but then someone else called and said that they were out and walking, but we still have to react to the worst case scenario,” a QFES spokeswoman said.
Another patient declined medical care and is thought to have sustained only minor injuries.
