Dramatic footage has emerged of two men being rescued after their boat capsized in shark-infested waters off a Queensland island.

Footage has emerged on social media of two men being rescued and being placed in a police vehicle after their boat capsized off Amity, North Stradbroke Island, on Friday, May 23.

In the vision, posted to Instagram by Nick Atkins, the men are seen clinging to the hull of their overturned vessel as waves crash over them.

A group of onlookers are then seen launching a rescue effort, with several people seen running towards a jet-ski on a trailer.

The jet-ski-bound Good Samaritans quickly arrive at the scene to rescue the men thrown overboard in the shark-infested waters off Amity Point.

As the rescue effort unfolds, vision shows one of the overboard men pantless, while being taken back to shore.

The pair were eventually brought back to the safety of the beach - where police officers were waiting - and placed in the back of a police vehicle.

Vision of the men being placed in the back of a police vehicle shows a police officer holding a plastic bottle containing a clear liquid.

The next day, the overturned vessel can be seen on the beach at Amity, surrounded by tape.

According to Queensland Police, a 64-year-old Dunwich man will appear in court to face a drink driving charge.

“Police responded to reports a vessel had overturned at South Passage Bar, Flinders Beach Drive, Amity on Friday afternoon around 5.15pm,” the spokesman said.

“Two men onboard the boat were rescued by members of the public and brought to shore.

“The two men were not injured.

“The skipper of the vessel, a 64-year-old Dunwich man has been issued a notice to appear for low range drink driving.”

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
