A shocking run of crashes on Central Queensland roads has sparked calls for action.
Flynn MP Colin Boyce said the Queensland Audit Office’s integrated transport planning (Report 4: 2017-18) projected a $9 billion shortfall in funding for the road network throughout Queensland.
“It is my view that if this is not addressed then it will increase exponentially as time goes by and the road network will continue to deteriorate and unfortunately, we will continue to see more serious accidents occur,” he said.
Hamish McDonald was among those furious about the latest crash, accusing the Queensland Government of spending all the money on the Bruce Highway south of Gympie.
“The goat track of a highway north of gympie is a joke and people a dying because of it.’’
Kaylene Vanderwolf said she had to put new tyres, rotors and brakes on my car because of the poor state of the highway.
“They just admitted to spending $7.2m on that stretch of road and now look at how many accidents there have been in the past month!
“This is starting to get out of control with the amount of accidents on this highway.
“The Bruce is becoming a huge issue whether it be issues with the quality of the road or driver error it has got to be looked at … and improved so no one else is killed. Sending prayers to this trucker’s family.’’
