Tour de Brisbane cycling event to close major roads across the city

Brisbane’s traffic network has plunged into chaos this morning with major road closures for the Tour de Brisbane cycling event causing heavy delays. SEE THE FULL LIST OF ROAD CLOSURES.

Brisbane’s traffic network has plunged into chaos this morning with major road closures for the Tour de Brisbane cycling event causing heavy delays.

Traffic is heavily impacted along Moggill Road, Milton Road, the Riverside Expressway and Shafston Avenue in Kangaroo Point.

Heavy delays are being experienced in the northbound direction from Beatrice Street to Burns Road along Moggill Road near Toowong.

Along Milton Road, traffic is heavily impacted from Ridley Street towards Croydon Street in the southbound direction and in the northbound direction from Wight Street to Hale Street.

Traffic is spilling onto side streets and residential areas of Milton, Paddington and Auchenflower as motorists try to avoid delays and road closures.

The Riverside Expressway is built up in the city-bound direction from North Quay back to Park Road in Woolloongabba.

Congestion is also starting to build in South Brisbane with delays on Grey Street, Hope Street, Merivale Street, Peel Street, Cordelia Street.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area, allow for extra travel time and to observe road diversions in place

Major Brisbane roads are closed this morning with more than 2500 cyclists taking to the streets for the Tour de Brisbane - impacting traffic and transport across the city.

The inaugural event on Sunday, April 14, features elite racing events and a free 8km community ride, sponsored by The Sunday Mail.

Police and traffic control teams have been deployed across Brisbane and on major roads north and south of the city to help manage congestion.

Tolls on the CLEM7 will be waived for northbound travel between 6am and 9.30am, and southbound from 6am to 10.30am.

TransLink says there will be “major disruptions” to the city’s bus network from 4.30am to 2pm on Sunday, and recommends commuters avoid or delay travel.

Meanwhile, the Beenleigh, Cleveland and Gold Coast train lines have been suspended in both directions between South Brisbane and Park Road due to a person trespassing.

FULL LIST OF ROAD CLOSURES

South Bank and South Brisbane (including Cultural Centre tunnel)

South Bank and South Brisbane road closures will be in operation between 6am and 2pm on Sunday.

Pedestrian and cyclist access via footpaths will be maintained during the road closures.

Kangaroo Point and Story Bridge

Kangaroo Point and Story Bridge road closures will be in operation between 6am and 8.30am on Sunday.

Pedestrian and cyclist access via footpaths will be maintained during the road closures.

All general traffic on Merivale St will be diverted onto Glenelg St and Gladstone Rd.

Westbound traffic is permitted to travel on Vulture St between Stanley St and Gladstone Rd.

Brisbane CBD

Brisbane CBD road closures will be in operation between 6am and 8.45am on Sunday.

Pedestrian and cyclist access via footpaths will be maintained during the road closures.

Access to the Riverside Expressway will be available via ramps at:

Alice St (northbound and southbound directions)

Ann St (southbound direction only)

North Quay (southbound direction only)

All northbound traffic on the Riverside Expressway will be diverted to the Turbot St off-ramp.

On and off ramps between the Riverside Expressway and Margaret St and Elizabeth St will be closed.

Coronation Drive

Coronation Drive road closures will be in operation between 6.10am and 8.45am on Sunday.

Pedestrian and cyclist access via footpaths will be maintained during the road closures.

All traffic between the city and Toowong will be diverted via Milton Rd, Croydon St and Jephson St.

Hale Street and Inner City Bypass

Hale St and Inner City Bypass road closures will be in operation between 6.10am and 10.30am on Sunday. Legacy Way will also be closed during this time.

No access to Inner City Bypass or Hale St from Milton Rd, Caxton St, Musgrave Rd, Kelvin Grove Rd, Victoria Park Rd or Bowen Bridge Rd.

All westbound traffic from Kingsford Smith Drive, Airport Link or Sandgate Rd will be diverted via CLEM7 tunnel (free of charge northbound between 6am and 9:30am, and southbound between 6am and 10:30am).

An alternative route for westbound traffic from Kingsford Smith Drive to Milton Rd is via Breakfast Creek Rd, Ann St, Roma St and Upper Roma St.

Western Freeway and Legacy Way

Western Freeway and Legacy Way road closures will be in operation both directions between 6.15am and 10.30am on Sunday.

Cyclist access via footpaths and the Centenary cycleway will be maintained during the road closures.

All inbound traffic will exit the Western Freeway at the Moggill Rd exit.

Traffic will be diverted to the City via Moggill Rd, Jephson St, Croydon St and Milton Rd.

Outbound traffic will be diverted from Milton Rd onto Croydon St, Jephson St and Moggill Rd.

Mount Coot-tha

Mt Coot-tha road closures will be in operation between 6.30am and 9.30am on Sunday.

Pedestrian and cyclist access via footpaths will be maintained during the road closures.

All southbound traffic on Boundary Rd at Bardon will be diverted toward the city via Rainworth Rd and Baroona Rd.

Traffic wishing to travel west will be diverted from Baroona Rd to Milton Rd via Bayswater Rd, Haig Rd and Torwood St.

From Milton Rd, traffic will be diverted toward Indooroopilly via Croydon St, Jephson St and Moggill Rd.

All outbound traffic wishing to travel to Bardon should travel via Caxton Street and Latrobe Terrace.

Cultural Precinct and Go Between Bridge

Cultural Precinct and Go Between Bridge road closures will be in operation between 6am and 10.30am on Sunday.

Pedestrian and cyclist access via footpaths will be maintained during the road closures.

Access from Montague Rd into Merivale St will be maintained during the closure period.

Access to and from the William Jolly Bridge will be possible via Peel St, Merivale St and Cordelia St.

Miles Platting Rd

Miles Platting Rd closures will be in operation between 7.30am and 12.30pm on Sunday.

Pedestrian and cyclist access via footpaths will be maintained during the road closures.

Gateway Motorway southbound on and off ramps will be closed at Miles Platting Rd.

Traffic exiting the Gateway Motorway northbound onto Miles Platting Rd will be diverted westbound toward Logan Rd.

All eastbound traffic on Miles Platting Rd from Logan Rd will be diverted onto the Gateway Motorway northbound.

Rochedale and Burbank

Rochedale and Burbank area road closures will be in operation between 7.30am and 11.30am on Sunday.

Mount Cotton Rd

Mount Cotton Rd will be closed in both directions from the Mount Gravatt – Capalaba Rd intersection to the Ney Rd roundabout between 7.45am and 12.30pm on Sunday.

Pedestrian and cyclist access via footpaths will be maintained during the closure period.

Burbank and Sheldon

Burbank and Sheldon area road closures will be in operation between 7.45am and 12.30pm on Sunday.

Priestdale and Rochedale South

Priestdale and Rochedale South area road closures will be in operation between 8.00am and 12.30pm on Sunday.

Pedestrian and cyclist access via footpaths will be maintained during the road closures.
