HIS role in the upcoming federal election might be all the talk in Canberra, but in Noosa, it was all about Tony Abbott’s form on the board ... and his grasp of surf etiquette.

IT seems former Prime Minister Tony Abbott is making a habit out of dropping in on his competitors.
On the same day colleagues in Canberra debated Mr Abbott’s potentially destabilising role in the election campaign, the former Prime Minister was yesterday lapping up the last of the long weekend on the Sunshine Coast.
He spent at least two hours surfing at Noosa’s Tea Tree Bay with daughter Bridget, one surfer managing to capture the moment he snaked a wave from Gold Coast holiday-maker Ivy Thomas.
“In the photo I look like I was not happy about it at all but I was stoked. I had plenty of waves so I was happy to share a couple,” Ms Thomas, 17, said.
“He was loving it. It was epic and he’s actually not bad. He can surf.
“Only in Australia will that ever happen — that you get to surf with an ex-Prime Minister.”
Noosa local Finn Massoud, 16, was also wooed by the “cool” politician while snapping a selfie alongside friend Bongsu Kim.
“We ran up to him just before he was leaving and we asked him if we could have a photo and he said “yeah, sure boys” and took a selfie with us,” Mr Massoud said.
“He’s a lot cooler than I thought he was.”
Mr Abbott was spotted holidaying with his family at the Queensland beach, surfing, chatting to locals and posing for photos on the beach.
