A toddler has been flown to hospital in a serious condition after she was struck by a car on the Sunshine Coast.
A triple-0 call for help was made about 1.20pm Monday, with reports a three-year-old girl was struck by a car at the Rainbow Beach Holiday Park in Rainbow Beach.
Emergency services later said the girl had been on sand, at a recreational facility, when she was struck by the vehicle.
The RACQ LifeFlight Helicopter immediately responded by sending in a Critical Care doctor and a Queensland Ambulance Service paramedic, at the request of paramedics on scene.
The Maroochydore LifeFlight chopper was on scene for close to two hours before the girl was flown to the Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane.
According to Queensland Ambulance Service Acting Senior Operations Supervisor James Mayfield, the youngster suffered serious injuries.
“QAS treated a three-year-old female patient with spinal and pelvic injuries,” he said.
“The patient was speaking and alert and orientated when (paramedics) were treating. At this stage with the injuries and the mechanism, she is in a serious condition.”
As school holidays approach, Mr Mayfield said the incident served as a timely reminder to travel with care while in locations such as campgrounds or other areas where children may be present.
