A new three-storey childcare centre proposed on a heritage-listed site will offer kids one of the best views of the CBD.
Plans were lodged with Brisbane City Council this week for the new ‘Happy Kids Early Learning Centre’ at 618 Brunswick Street, New Farm.
Among features would be an outdoor play area situated on the building’s rooftop, according to floorplans submitted to Brisbane City Council.
The new centre will be tacked onto the back of an existing shopfront dating back to between the 1860s and 1890s, which is heritage listed.
The proposal suggests it would have enough space to care for 100 kids.
In the development application, the developer argues the plans do not involve “any demolition or alteration to the original Local Heritage Place.”
“An analysis of the Brunswick Street and Terrace Street intersection was undertaken and the results demonstrated the proposal would not have a significant impact on the performance of the intersection,” the assessment report said.
The development’s traffic report said the proposed childcare centre would generate 75 vehicles per hour during morning peak hours and 67 in the afternoon, mainly for pick-up and drop off.
A Brisbane City Council spokesman said the development would come up for public consultation, but town-planners had not yet started assessing the proposal.
“As this application was only lodged yesterday and is not yet considered properly made Council’s assessment has not begun,” the spokesman said.
