A mother and father’s hearts have been “completely broken” and a family’s Christmas shattered as their “gorgeous” little girl lost her fight for life after being hit by a car on the Gold Coast.

Three-year-old Luna Matenga had been fighting for life for days in Gold Coast University after being hit by a car on Sunday, December 22, at Ormeau.

Her grieving parents took to social media today to mourn their “gorgeous blue eyed, red headed” daughter.

“Unfortunately at 9.03pm on the 22nd of December we let our beautiful baby girl go, surrounded by her family in the arms of her mummy and daddy,” her mother Jessica Feeney wrote.

A GoFundMe account for Luna and her family had raised more than $66,000.

“With the heaviest of hearts, I want to thank every single person for their prayers and positive vibes for my baby girl. She felt it, we felt it.”

Ms Feeney had previously said she felt like the “whole world” was behind her daughter.

Today she posted: “Our hearts are completely broken. Fly high my gorgeous blue eyed, red headed unicorn! Ride those dragons baby. Until we meet again”

Police said initial investigations indicate she crossed the road in between two parked vehicles and was hit by a Toyota Corolla which was travelling northbound.

An off-duty registered nurse was at the scene and started CPR immediately, before Luna was taken to Gold Coast University hospital.

“My heart is broken for your beautiful family. Completely broken. No words will ever be enough to heal your pain. Luna will always be remembered as an incredibly kind and courageous little girl,” one wrote.

“Our deepest condolences to you and your family Jess. We will always cherish our memories of Luna and hold her close to our hearts. She made such a big impact on our family ‘Luna from across the street’. She was a beautiful little person with wonderful parents. We will miss you forever,” another wrote.
