Three more near-drownings in Queensland

Three people, including two children, have been taken to hospital after near-drowning incidents today near Hervey Bay and Townsville.
A five-year-old boy was taken to hospital after he was pulled from the water of a swimming pool at a caravan park at Scarness near Hervey Bay about 4pm today.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said the boy was conscious but was having difficulty breathing, and was transferred to hospital in a stable condition.
Further north, a four-year old and a 21-year-old were taken to hospital in a stable condition after a near-drowning in a local creek at Hervey Range near Townsville.
The incidents come after Surf Life Saving Queensland launched its new swim safety campaign today, urging parents to supervise their children around water.
They also follow a recent spate of fatalities and near-fatalities, including a seven-year-old Japanese boy who died in hospital after an incident at Cairns Esplanade Lagoon, an elderly man who drowned at Kings Beach, Caloundra, two people who were pulled from a pool at Brendale north of Brisbane, and a three-year-old boy pulled from South Bank Parklands lagoon in Brisbane.
