KOEN Weir spends several weeks a year receiving treatment for his cerebral palsy at Brisbane’s Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital.
But this time he’ll have something special to tell his friends when he returns home to central Queensland.
The 11-year-old met Thor stars Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston on Tuesday when they made a special visit to the children’s hospital.
Koen got to interview the pair for Juiced TV, an online station funded by The Children’s Hospital Foundation.
Koen said it was very exciting to meet the Hollywood stars.
“We got heaps of photos,” he said.
Koen said he didn’t have a favourite, telling The Courier-Mail he liked them both equally.
Mum Tashia Weir said she had an inkling her son would get to meet Hemsworth and Hiddleston when she learned they were in town filming Thor: Ragnarok.
“Koen has done a couple of Juiced TV segments in the past,” she said.
“They rang us a few days ago and said they were doing a superhero segment.
“They asked us if Koen would like to host another one.”
Mrs Weir said staff at Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital considered her son to be a superhero.
Koen raised $16,500 last year when he completed the 5km Bridge to Brisbane course.
Mrs Weir said her son raised the money for Stand Tall, a charity that buys walking equipment for other children with cerebral palsy.
“He shouldn’t have been able to walk that but he pushed himself,” she said.
“Two days after he could barely walk, he actually crawled around the house.”
Mrs Weir said it was an amazing experience to see the stars of Thor walk through the hospital doors yesterday.
“We just keep thinking ‘did it really happen?’ she said.
The family have been in Brisbane so Koen could have an operation to lengthen the muscles in his right leg.
The primary school student has to have another procedure on Thursday, before returning home to the town of Tieri on the weekend.
Mrs Weir said she hoped the trips to Brisbane would decrease as Koen’s condition improved.
“Worst case is we come down every three months,” she said.
“He has to miss a lot of school and that’s one thing he does worry about because he loves it.”
