This is why Samsung triumphs over Apple

Sorry iPhone users, but your phone is sub par compared to the user-friendly and hi-tech offerings available to Samsung owners. These are the seven big reasons you need to switch immediately.

If you have an iPhone, you’re trendy. If you don’t … you’re not conforming to the groupthink that is the Apple echo chamber.

Any time they upgrade, iPhone users are splashing out hundreds or thousands of dollars for a slightly rehashed design with very little changes from the previous model or, worse, upgrades that were already available as standard for Samsung users five years.

Case in point: New customisable interface changes announced in iOS 18. That’s great and all, but Android has had major customisation options available for at least the past 10 years.

And if you’re wondering how long it took the iPhone to adopt the Type-C charging standard compared to Samsung, the Apple brand has had it for less than a year, while Samsung users have had it for eight.

Here are just seven reasons why Samsung is the only choice for your next phone.

1. Mass data transfers

Android takes the cake on phone-to-phone transfers of multiple pieces of data because of one simple reason: Smart Switch can be activated any time. Quick Start on the iPhone can only be activated at set-up. If you want to transfer data from one iPhone to another, if it isn’t done at set-up, then you’re out of luck unless you erase your phone back to factory settings.

You also can’t use either phone during the Quick Start process … whereas on Samsung Galaxy phones you’re free to use Smart Switch as often as you want without interfering in the usability of the phone.

Both Smart Switch and Quick Start have similar functionality, but in terms of accessibility, there’s really no competition.

2. Storage

iCloud is fantastic, however you have to pay for more than 5GB of storage. iPhone users are encouraged to use iCloud to backup their data, rather than using third-party applications such as Google Drive which offer more free storage.

So much of the iPhone interface is intertwined with iCloud to the point where it’s easy to use up the 5GB storage.

For those without digital literacy the red alerts to back up data to iCloud or else you lose everything can be confronting even when you have access to 128GB storage. It’s almost playing on desperation and it’s an uncomfortable feeling.

Many of the older iPhone devices (even within the past few years) have had only 64GB internal storage. In 2024 that’s just not a realistic amount of storage when you consider the amount of software required by Apple as well as the advanced photography options offered by newer devices.

3. Photography

When you compare Samsung Galaxy S23 to the iPhone 15 Pro on the photography front, the iPhone is absolutely outclassed. Samsung offers a 50.0MP wide-angle camera compared to the iPhone’s 48MP main camera.

Optical zoom for Samsung is 3x while Apple only has a 2x option. Digital zoom is up to 30x for Samsung, while Apple only offers a 10x Zoom. Samsung also has 8K video while Apple only offers 4K video.

Taking accessibility to the next level, you can also take a selfie on a Samsung Galaxy phone just by holding up your palm to the screen while the camera app is open. On Apple you can ask Siri to take a photograph, use a bluetooth remote or download a third-party app that allows you to use your palm. Like everything on the iPhone, it’s just a whole lot of extra steps for something Samsung users have been able to do for years.

4. Entry level options

Samsung bridges the gap between novice and more advanced users, adding an Easy Mode function that, if selected, enhances the size of everything, switches to a high-contrast keyboard and extends the touch-and-hold delay to prevent accidental taps and touches.

Samsung has designed the A series and the J series phones for people who just want a basic phone without the “bells and whistles” of the major flagship designs. They offer a large screen, a long battery life, fast charging and customisation designed to improve accessibility rather than improve the layout for aesthetic reasons.

5. Customisation

iOS 18 has just been announced, a much anticipated and welcomed upgrade to the limited customisation options offered to iPhone users … but Samsung offers a level of customisation that Apple cannot compete with.

The home screen display can be completely altered by downloading various “launcher” apps, which allows users to transform every inch of the display: folders, app drawers, dock settings, layouts and integrations. Despite the announced customisation changes offered by iPhone, the question is … why does every single iPhone need to conform to one single bland design with slight colour changes?

6. S-Pen

The Samsung Ultra and the now discontinued Samsung Note series provide an in-built S-Pen, allowing users to perform gestures and actions on their phone without requiring the user to hold the device.

You can take notes with the S-Pen as well as write live messages that can later be converted into animated GIFs. This is something not offered by the iPhone because the Apple Pencil doesn’t work with the iPhone.

7. Cost

The most affordable entry-level Samsung device as of the publishing date is the Samsung Galaxy A05s (released in 2023) priced at $299 on the Samsung store, while the premium Samsung Galaxy S23 FE (released in 2023) is priced at $949.

The most affordable entry-level Apple device as of the publishing date is the iPhone SE (released in 2022) priced at $719 on the Apple store, while the premium iPhone 13 (released in 2021) is priced at $1099.

There’s no debate, Samsung is just better value.
