THE name of a father who died in a multi-car car crash in Logan on the weekend has been released.

Tupuna Neti Matai Rongo, 37, of Meadowbrook, passed away in the Princess Alexandra hospital Sunday night following a three-car crash at the intersection of Fletcher and Logan River roads in Bethania about 3.30pm June 7.

Ramsay Wells, 54, from Waterford West, was in a white car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mr Rongo’s eldest son, Jonah Valu, 17, said his biological father loved rugby and playing a ukulele for a hobby.

“He was a good, funny bloke (and) family oriented,” he said.

“He loved his ukulele and his rugby. He supported the bulldogs.”

Mr Valu said his father was a welder and had also worked in fencing and the security business.

He said he had seven children ranging in ages from about five to about 23 from different relationships.

Many other friends and family members took to Facebook to offer their sympathies to the man some called “Puna.”

“Our deepest condolences to the Rongo family in Australia and the Cook Islands on the passing of Tupuna Jnr Matai Rongo,” wrote Ikupu Igo Gavera of Papua New Guinea.

“May God give you strength and peace to you all in this time of bereavement.”

Solomona Harris said he was in shock at losing his Uncle Puna.

“I miss and love you soo (sic) much. I can’t believe you’re actually gone,” he said.

“We always talked on and off but you were the one I could talk to comfortably about anything no matter what it was and you never judged me for it.

“You always considered me a son and I always looked up to you no matter how much of an egg you were.”

Posts on Mr Rongo’s Facebook page, which showed him dressed in a security guard jacket, showed his love for his children and extended family.

On Sunday, a Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said three cars had crashed at the intersection in Bethania in Logan, south of Brisbane, with the impact causing a blue car to roll onto its roof and catch fire.

Queensland Police said three cars were involved in the smash.

A woman and a man, both in their 60s, were taken to Logan Hospital in stable condition.

Residents blamed the inadequate speed limits, road works and poor signage for the deaths at the now notorious intersection.

The Police Forensic Crash Unit and officers from the Department of Transport and Main Roads are investigating the crash.

It was the second fatal wreck in the state on Sunday, after four teenagers died when the car they were in clipped a roundabout, rolled and smashed into a traffic light in Garbutt, Townsville.
