NOMINEES are flooding in for News Corp’s Thanks a Million campaign but one foster agent worked tirelessly through the pandemic to keep foster kids safe.

Churches of Christ foster agent Kerri Maracic has been put forward by foster carer Scarlett Kent as part of the campaign inviting readers to show their gratitude to the essential workers keeping Australia going during the battle with COVID-19.

Ms Maracic was there at the start of Scarlett’s foster journey, she said Kerri’s help was so vital that she didn’t “think we would have got through it without her.”

“She’s bloody awesome, she is so amazing, she just goes above and beyond, it’s not just a job for her she really looks after the families that are in her care,” Ms Kent said.

“It was scary to think about all these kids that would be going unseen but these are the kinds of people that were really still just getting in there while it was all being forgotten about.”

Ms Maracic goes the extra mile for the families she works with even during the pandemic, putting her own health at risk.

“I just feel they’re the ones that deserve all the praise because I’m not the one looking after them 24 hours a day but I’m very humbled by it, for sure,” Ms Maracic said.

Ms Maracic was working during the pandemic to make sure the children that needed urgent help weren’t forgotten about.

“Even though the clock ticks off I don’t say that’s the end of the day because we’re dealing with kids’ lives, people’s lives, trauma, difficult kids, difficult families and a system that’s hard to manage,” Ms Maracic said.

“It’s amazing when those kids get to tear up their child protection orders and they’ve got their life, there is not a better feeling, I can tell you.”
