Yaroomba surfer Trevor Tripcony has raised his state championship tally to four, after competing in the Queensland Surf Festival where he claimed gold in two divisions.
Tripcony endured an action-packed, 9-day series of shortboard surfing on the Sunshine Coast, where he won the over 35 masters’ and over 40 masters’ state titles.

He said he was extremely excited to pull off the win on home soil.
“It’s always good to have the local crowd behind you, and definitely always good to beat the Gold Coast boys,” he said.
“I was pretty happy to come away with a couple wins.”
Even though Tripcony originally came to rule the master’s categories, he proved he could still hang with the younger lads, making it all the way to the quarterfinals in the opens shortboard comp.
Mr Tripcony said he didn’t even plan to compete in the male opens, and had been placed in the competition by mistake.
Despite this, he said he wasn’t shocked when he made it to the quarterfinals.
“It didn’t surprise me. I surf the open boardriders local comp. It’s always good having a go anyway,” he said.
Tripcony said the poor sea conditions that were prevalent throughout the Coast that week created difficult heats while in the surf.
“Sometimes we were out there in the rain and you can’t see much, and it can get a bit wild,” he said.
“It was a week of wild weather.”
He said a highlight of the event was evening the score with rival Gold Coast surfer Shaun Gossman, who snared the Queensland over 35 title last year where Tripcony placed second.
“He’s a hard guy to beat, so it’s always in the back of my mind that he’s there, and it was good to come away with the win.”
Tripcony said he was looking forward to the event calendar for the rest of the year, and has his sights set on the Australian Open Surf Titles.
He also said he hoped to return to the state championships in 2022, and was looking to add at least one more Queensland surf trophy to his collection.
Coast talents Emily Lethbridge and Bowie Pollard took out the open women’s and open men's longboarding finals.
