Woman, 50, in hospital after flash rip rescue on Maroochydore Beach

A 50-year-old women, who swallowed water while struggling in a flash rip, is in hospital after being saved from drowning.

Lifesavers and paramedics hold concerns for a 50-year-old women who was rescued from a flash rip while swimming at a Coast beach.

A Queensland Life Saving spokeswoman said the woman was swimming in front of the Maroochydore Surf Club when she became stuck in a flash rip.

The spokeswoman said a lifesaver rescued the swimmer, who was suffering from an elevated heart rate, and placed her on oxygen therapy.

After 15 minutes the woman's heart rate had not calmed and she was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said paramedics were called to the beach around 11:37am on reports a woman had swallowed some water.
