Surfing superstar Julian Wilson has been caught up in an ugly contractual dispute, worth $1.5 million, with long-time sponsor Hurley.
The Coolum Beach world number 11 has filed a complaint against his sponsor of six years alleging the company refused to pay him at least $1.5 million.
Wilson claimed he had a written endorsement agreement which stated he was owed the money but said Hurley withheld the full amount in an attempt to make a profit from the COVID-19 pandemic.

In his most recent competition, the Tweed Pro, Wilson's wetsuit and board were void of any Hurley logos.
It's understood Hurley tried to terminate the contract with Wilson claiming he had ceased to compete in surf contests.
Many surf contests were cancelled due to the pandemic.
But according to the World Surf League, Wilson competed in the Surfest Newcastle Pro, the Sydney Surf Pro and the Tweed Coast Pro.
It is understood Wilson's legal team argued it was "almost impossible" to contest international
competitions during this unprecedented year.
Wilson, through his representatives, allegedly made several attempts to resolve the parties' dispute.
