WHILE Noosa residents are fighting to protect dingoes on Fraser Island, nearby Eerwah Vale property owners are under siege from marauding wild dogs.
According to one resident, Eileen Walder, the problem of dingoes and cross-breed dogs has been worsening since an effective control program some years ago.
"It has become so bad that over Christmas, while we were away in America, the dingoes were killing calves as they were being born," Mrs Walder said.
"One particular pair who look pure dingo have become especially bold lately, coming right up to houses and seem unafraid of humans. They are very brazen."
Mrs Walder said several pets had been attacked recently, prompting her to contact the Sunshine Coast Council, which had agreed for its pest controller Peter Bell to meet with residents.
This meeting, at a time and venue to be decided, will be only for affected Eerwah Vale and North Arm property owners.
Mrs Walder said there were almost daily sightings of the dogs in the area.
She said one cattle producer said he had been dispatching up to 15 wild dogs a year.
She said Mr Bell would present suggestions to handle the problem and hoped residents would discuss their ideas so that a solution could be found which was also safe.
Anyone wanting to attend can phone Mrs Walder on 5442 8255.
