The talented young students are putting on a production of Wicked, the untold truth behind Dorothy Gale's bumpy landing in Oz.
Lead witch, Elphaba, played by 15-year-old Reese Corner, deals with rivalry over the main love interest, a wizard's corrupt government and a public fall from grace.
Reese said the role was an incredible opportunity having performed from a young age.
"It's pretty exciting being green,” she said.
"Wicked is my favourite musical and I'm just so happy that I get to be such a great part of it.”
The rising star hoped she would one day perform on a real Broadway stage.
"The rush and adrenaline is my favourite part of performing, it's like going on a roller-coaster,” she said.
"This musical has definitely helped boost my confidence a lot for my future.”
Maroochydore State High School's head of creative industries Steve White is producing the musical and says the students are committed to putting on a wonderful show.
"They've practically been working on it every lunch hour and will be doing weekend practices too,” Mr White said.
"It's insane the amount of time they're put into the performance, but it's the passion that drives them.”
He said the dramatic arts taught students more than just stage cues.
"It's more than just drama.
"It challenges students on a number of levels and gives them confidence they'll use for the rest of their lives.”
Opening night is on June 3 at 7pm and will run to June 7.
