Why Powderfinger's Jon Coghill is stopping strangers on the street for new podcast
A legendary rock drummer and successful podcaster have joined forces to uncover extraordinary tales from everyday Australians on the street.
A legendary drummer and successful podcaster are teaming up to release a new podcast to show “that everyone has a tale to tell”.
What a Stranger Told Me is co-hosted by former Powderfinger drummer, Jon Coghill, and The Small Business Big Marketing podcast host, Tim Reid, to uncover the interesting stories of ordinary people from the streets of Australia.
The first 12 episodes of the podcast have already been released, including stories about a homeless grandad celebrating his daughter’s Bluey-themed birthday, a girl that collects dead animals, and a woman that has lost 40kg while on a lolly hunt.
Mr Coghill said searching for these stories while walking the streets of Australia could be intimidating.
“I traditionally chew other people’s ears off, but I’ve managed to control my manners and listen ... actually listen!” Mr Coghill said.
“What a Stranger Told Me is a cacophony of conversations with strangers we meet on the street – it’s both heartwarming and shocking.”
Mr Reid said the podcast is reminiscent of the 90s SBS series Front Up.
“Since 2004 when host, Andrew Urban, stopped wandering the streets with his signature ponytail and talking to everyday Australians, there’s been no one checking in on how folks are travelling, and the stories they hold close until now,” Mr Reid said.
“We get rejected a bunch, Jon more than me, but then we’re blown away with an absolute gem.”
Season 1 of What a Stranger Told Me is currently available on all podcast platforms.
