SIGNIFICANT conflicts have led to a proposed shopping centre, fast food and service station development in Beerwah being knocked back.

In October last year, Coles Group Property Developments lodged plans with Sunshine Coast Council for a Coles supermarket, McDonald’s, a petrol station, retail showroom, gym and light industry development.

Council raised concerns for the proposal and requested further information in order for the application to progress.

Coles Group Property Developments have since requested more time to consider council’s information requests.

Council highlighted a number of inconsistencies that were “significantly in conflict” with the planning scheme.

Some of the concerns raised by council included for matters related to the following: Loss of industrial land supply in Beerwah, suitability and availability of centre-zoned land in Beerwah, economic need and impact assessment, external traffic impacts, service vehicle manoeuvring, scenic route and vehicle access.

The group has until September 2 to address the concerns.

The proposal, on the corner of Steve Irwin Way and Roys Rd, was pitched to create 180 jobs and open in 2021.
