Residents in 20 Sunshine Coast suburbs will be soon notified of council's plans to use controversial 1080 poison to control wild dogs and foxes.
A council spokeswoman said the poison is the "most efficient, humane and species specific" pesticide available to control the wild animals.
Under strict approval from Queensland Health and Biosecurity Queensland, council uses 1080 poison as part of a targeted program for wild dog and fox control.

The wild dog program started on April 19 and will continue until May 19.
These suburbs are affected: Bald Knob, Beerburrum, Beerwah, Belli Park, Cambroon, Coochin Creek, Coolabine, Conondale, Curramore, Elaman Creek, Glass House Mountains, Kenilworth, Kidaman Creek, Landsborough, Peachester, Reesville, Valdora, Witta and Woota.
Council's Coastal Fox program is also underway at some coastal bushland areas from Maroochy River to Peregian Springs over the same time period.
It comes as Noosa Council will use the same poison across the hinterland of its shire.
"The areas where 1080 is used are selected based on historical impacts of wild dogs and foxes and where we can minimise the risk to off-target animals, including domestic animals and pets," the council spokeswoman said.
"Council's baiting program has been successfully delivered over many years and has seen a decrease in incident reporting of wild dog and fox impacts."
She said that when the program was in operation large signs would be placed on roads leading to the areas, to warn pet owners.
Participating properties are required to display warning signs on boundaries and entry gates.
Residents in the immediate area of the baiting program are also sent written notification and information about 1080 and keeping their pets secured.
