RACING: A runner out of the stables of Australian racing’s first lady, Gai Waterhouse will feature on the Sunshine Coast today.
Three-year-old gelding Navy Cross will mark his fourth start back since a spell in race seven – the Stanley River Thoroughbreds 2200m.
It is “not totally uncommon” for Waterhouse and fellow trainer Adrian Bott to frequent the Coast but a rare occasion.
It’s understood she will bring Navy Cross to the Coast for the revised winter racing carnival.
Navy Cross has three wins from nine starts.
Chris Waller, the trainer of the mighty mare Winx, will also feature.
Flying the local hopes will again be Stuart Kendrick, who recently surpassed his 900th career win, has three runners starting.
He was due to have more but said late yesterday he expected some to be scratched.
“It’s not that unusual for her. She might be looking to get them over a bit of ground,” Kendrick said.
Kendrick predicted two of his listed runners, Queen Sweeper and Mymming, to be strong each way bets.
“Queen Sweeper is really promising. Trialled nicely and has a good barrier, she will run really well,” she said.
“Mymming is back on home track, which is a big advantage. She likes the softer tracks too.”
