A Woombye woman jumped into a teenager’s car in the middle of the night and threatened to kill him while wielding a bottle of alcohol, a court has heard.

Vickie Maree Barrett, 43, was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, wilful damage and common assault.

Barrett failed to appear at her hearing in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on May 5, 2022, but police prosecutor Nick Nitschke put in an application to proceed to sentence in her absence.

The application was approved by Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist and the court heard the details of Barrett’s random attack.

Sergeant Nitschke said the 18-year-old male victim who was unknown to Barrett was driving at Coes Creek when he saw Barrett standing in the middle of the road at 12.30am on November 23, 2021.

The victim had to veer left to miss hitting Barrett and stopped his car on the side of the road.

“He has then heard the passenger door open and the defendant entered the side of his vehicle and sat down,” Sergeant Nitschke told the court.

The teenager asked numerous times for her to get out of the vehicle but Barrett demanded he drive and started verbalising threats.

She lifted a bottle of alcohol above her head stating, “You have to drive now or I will hit you with it.”

Barrett also said, “Shut up or I will kill you.”

Sergeant Nitschke said the victim asked if she wanted help and said he could call the police for her but she replied, “if you call the police they will kill me and then I will kill you”.
