A former chef brandished a kitchen knife in search of a group of teenagers after he was “surrounded” and accused of selling drugs near a Noosa bridge.

Trent Anthony Black, 47, pleaded guilty in Noosa Magistrates Court on April 2 to one count of going armed as to cause fear and one of being a public nuisance.

Police prosecutor Nick Nitschke told the court on February 15 about 2.30pm police had received reports of a man wielding a knife near Gympie Terrace at Noosaville.

He said Black had approached a group of children who were jumping off a footbridge and began filming after he was accused of “various acts”.

The court heard Black had gone home to retrieve a kitchen knife and then began riding his bike around the area with the knife in hand in search of the group.

Mr Nitschke said members of the public had become fearful upon seeing the knife.

Police received a call from Black himself when he “realised what he was doing” after witnessing a man at a bus stop run away from him.

Defence lawyer Katie Paterson told the court Black had been intoxicated that day, coping with losing his job and his relationship.

She said he had consumed two litres of wine and was riding his bike home when he saw the teenagers jumping off the bridge.

Ms Paterson told the court after Black approached them with intent to reprimand, the group surrounded him, called him names and accused him of trying to sell drugs.

The altercation resulted in Black being hit and kicked on the ground and he fetched the knife from his kitchen set with “intent to scare” the juveniles.

Ms Paterson said Black had been working as a chef for 27 years and is currently living off Centrelink payment.

Magistrate Chris Callaghan fined him $1500 and a conviction was recorded.
