Sunshine Coast trainers Sheila Laxon and Stuart Kendrick are eager for some home-track success when they welcome a number of metropolitan and interstate trainers to Caloundra on November 18.

Laxon, along with her training partner John Symons, would saddle up three chances for the day including the current Mooloolaba Cup favourite, Knight’s Choice.

The three-year-old gelding secured a cracking win in the Winx Guineas back in July, which was its last run at the track before heading to Sydney for the Tattersalls Group Handicap, Filante Handicap and the Golden Eagle.

He is unbeaten at the 1600m distance and has three wins from four runs at Caloundra.

“He was really a victim of circumstance in Sydney but being back at Caloundra is a massive, massive positive,” she said.

“It is a tough race and he has drawn barrier one so hopefully he jumps well because he is a horse that tends to take a while to get into his run.

“Hopefully the rain stays away and if he can get the last crack at them I think he’ll really put it to them.”

Leading Sunshine Coast trainer Stuart Kendrick would also have two runners in the day’s premier race in Star of Michelin and Menazzi.

“It’s probably one of the best Mooloolaba Cup meetings that I’ve seen with the amount of talented runners, good trainers and good jockeys,” he said.

“It’s going to be hard to win races on the day with all the big stables and plenty of good horses who are getting ready for the Summer carnival and the magic millions.

“The old boy Star Of Michelin has probably struggled for a little while and would have to return to somewhere near his best but he’s in good condition, loves the track and we planned to have him second up and aimed for this race.

“We’ve also got Menazzi who has been in good form and been thereabouts all prep.

“He’s going to get in light at the weights and loves this track so hopefully he can be in the money.”

Kendrick would also have another seven runners across five different races on the day and was expecting big performance from two of his stable’s leading runners.

“Lost In Transit has been in some really good form as he’s won four of his last six and had two placings,” he said.

“He’ll be hard to catch at the 1400m race and we’ve also got a really nice three-year-old coming back in Defiant Spirit.

“He’s won two from three which probably should’ve been three from three and he’s been working the house down so hopefully we see him put his best foot forward.”

The bumper 10 race card will begin at 12.18pm with the last set to run at 5.50pm.
