UPDATE: Paramedics have taken three people to Sunshine Coast University Hospital after a serious crash on the Sunshine Motorway.
The incident caused major delays with some commuters reporting being stuck in traffic for an hour.
Police said four vehicle were involved and traffic past the Alexandra Headland scene was flowing.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said the three people were in stable conditions when taken to hospital.
A PEAK hour pileup has caused carnage on a busy Coast road as emergency crews rush to the scene.
A witness said a ute flipped onto its roof and at least another two were damaged in the crash in the southbound lanes of the Sunshine Motorway just north of the Mooloolaba exit about 5.30pm Tuesday.
The witness said a lot of people got out of their cars immediately to help the male driver of the overturned car.
She said a female passenger of another damaged car was having trouble getting out of the vehicle.
Commuters are reporting large delays in the Maroochydore area.
