A quiet coastal suburb on the Sunshine Coast may soon feature new luxury villas with a development proposal revealing a rare bid to modernise the area.
If Sunshine Coast Regional Council approves the code-assessable proposal, the low-set four-bedroom home would be demolished to make way for five coastal-style villas.
The generously sized 902sqm corner block at 22 Watson Street sold in August 2022 for $2.375m and is now owned by Watson Street Project directors Tom Low and Callan Sipthorp.
The Kyma Ocean Villas project would feature five units intended for short-term stays, one street back from Currimundi Beach.
The plans show each villa would have its own private plunge pool.
The three-bedroom villas would also include a designated surfboard rack area, large first floor living zone and a courtyard feature tree.

Sunshine Coast real estate agent Andrew Garland said the proposed development would be “pioneering a new look” in the quiet Currimundi pocket, an area with medium density limits.
“Often (at Currimundi) the desire for people to have their house there has been a greater force than developers looking to buy blocks and make a profit,” Mr Garland said.
“People have been buying houses and keeping them as houses, I think if it were a standard sized block it would have been much less likely a developer was going to buy it.”
Mr Garland said the modern, luxury villas would be a new design among older homes in the area but ultimately he believes they would be popular among holiday makers and buyers.
“They might look a little bit out of place at first, but over time it may blend in more when people start updating those other homes around it, it is definitely pioneering a new look in that location,” Mr Garland said.
“Somewhere like Currimundi is quiet, it has maintained its character.
“But no doubt people will be interested in buying them.”
