BIRTINYA, Maroochydore and Mooloolaba are "hot" areas of growth, according to a map that shows building application approvals across the Sunshine Coast.
Released today, the Sunshine Coast Regional Council's "heat map" shows building approvals tracked over three financial years.
Planning Portfolio Councillor Christian Dickson said with building development approvals in excess of $1billion over the past three years, it was valuable to see the "hot spots" of activity on a regional map.
"Plotting the low, medium, and high concentration areas of residential, commercial and industrial building approvals based on the number of applications, the map excludes low-value applications such as swimming pools, demolitions or temporary structures," Cr Dickson said.
"The map identifies high levels of activity within the Sunshine Coast Enterprise Corridor that stretches from the Sunshine Coast Airport to Caloundra South," he said.
He said the corridor, identified as an investment focus area in the regional economic development plan, was the "key location" for anticipated commercial and residential growth over the next 20 years.
"The corridor is likely to accommodate approximately 70% of the region's projected population growth and a substantial level of new business investment in the region's high-value industries," Cr Dickson said.
"The Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme 2014 supports the ongoing development of the Enterprise Corridor and is designed to encourage investment in infrastructure to underpin identified commercial, industrial and residential precincts."
Cr Dickson said the planning scheme provided the right conditions for investment to prosper in the right locations to shape growth on the Sunshine Coast.
"Within the enterprise corridor there are three areas that show as dark red on the map, highlighting the location of high volumes of building approvals recorded between 2012 and 2015 - Maroochydore, Mooloolaba and Birtinya," he said.
