Falcons debutante Jack Wright still has a poster hanging on his bedroom wall of the Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles' grand final win from back in 2009.

He was just nine when he sat in a large crowd at Stockland Park for the Sunshine Coast's first and only premiership.

He was new to rugby league but could remember Tony Williams and Trent Hodkinson running around.

Little did he know at the time, but it sparked a burning desire within the 21-year-old playmaker to achieve a goal that was released at the weekend.

Wright played his first game for the Falcons in the Intrust Super Cup on Sunday.

Not only did the Falcons earn a come-from-behind win over Souths Logan Magpies, Wright played a starring role in securing the points.

The Kawana Dolphins junior and former Falcons colts captain said he had been a fan since day one.

"I've been going to games since I was nine, I always watch them," Wright said.

Looking back on his debut, Wright said it was a surreal feeling to fulfil his goal.

But now he's had a taste he wants more.

"I want to play as many games as I can for the club," he said.

Wright, who started in the halves with Todd Murphy, learnt he'd be making his debut in a phone call from coach Sam Mawhinney.

Falcons' best 1-17 without Melbourne Storm stars

Initially he thought it would be as a bench utility, but the club's Melbourne Storm affiliates were made unavailable when new Queensland COVID-19 cases emerged late last week.

"I was pretty shocked and nervous when I got off the phone to Sam," he said.

"I told mum and dad straight away. They were stoked.

"Plenty of my mates came down to Bishop Park for the game, that was great."

Mawhinney, who has coached Wright since under-16s, said the youngster had a big future at the club.

"He did exactly what we expected, solid defence, didn't overplay his hand and scored a pretty good try," Mawhinney said.

"He just understands his football too, he has a football brain."

After a spirited second half, the Falcons hung on late to topple the Magpies 32-26 to earn their first points of the season.

Mawhinney praised Murphy, hooker Kurt Baptiste, backrower Patrice Siolo and fullback Luke Polselli but said the whole squad did their job.

The Intrust Super Cup has a bye this weekend but Mawhinney said the resumption of the competition was a little up in the air.
