A popular Indian restaurant which has been dishing out the spice, heat and flavour for almost three decades on the Sunshine Coast has been voted the best bite around.

The Curry Bowl at Buddina has been crowned the top Indian restaurant on the Sunshine Coast by Daily readers.

The establishment scored 25 per cent of votes, followed by Hathi Indian Restaurant at 13 per cent.

The award-winning Hathi is the predecessor of The Curry Bowl, which opened on January 31, 1997.

Both restaurants are spearheaded by brothers Chris, Aldrin and Peter de Silva, who also run Rangoli Indian Restaurant in Buderim.

The Curry Bowl moved to serving takeaway only since the pandemic but have plans to reopen for dine-in with new additions in coming months.

Peter de Silva said it was an honour to have won the title and the crew is overwhelmed with gratitude.

“This one is special because our customers thought enough of our restaurant to take a few precious minutes of their time to go online and vote for us,” he said.

“From the bottom of our hearts, a very big thank you to everyone who voted for us, we are grateful you hold us in such high regard.”

Mr de Silva credited the restaurants’ success to their dedicated team, including their restaurant supervisor of 25 years and a head chef of 10 years.

He said the Curry Bowl has gathered a following with multiple generations of customers.

“This loyal following helped immensely during the pandemic for example and is one of the key reasons for always endeavouring to maintain the high standards we aspire to,” Mr de Silva said.

Chris de Silva, executive chef of the restaurant trio, worked in a leading Indian establishment in Brisbane prior to the Hathi Indian Restaurant on top of his endeavours overseas.

The three brothers manage a team of about 45 employees between the three venues.

Mr de Silvia said Hathi Indian Restaurant is the oldest Indian establishment on the Sunshine Coast.
