One of the Sunshine Coast’s ‘newest’ venues is staying true to its art deco roots as the team prepares to throw open its doors in time for new year’s celebrations.

One of Nambour’s oldest watering holes is receiving a makeover and will open in time for new year celebrations.

The Club Hotel Namba, formerly Stalwart Ale House and Brewery, will throw open its Currie St doors to the public on December 30 for a New Year’s Eve party.

Stalwart shut in February as brewer Adam Tomlinson pointed to the Covid-19 pandemic as the reason behind the business’s closure.

Club Hotel Namba director Josh Allen said the renovations to the pub had cost between $50,000 and $100,000, with a design focus that honoured the building’s art deco heritage.

Mr Allen has teamed up with co-director Paul Harley and manager Mark Lean to bring a family-focused entertainment venue to Nambour that would pride itself on affordable pub-style dining, a wholesome and relaxed atmosphere and live music.

The team has worked since October to paint the interior and exterior, install new flooring and redo the beer garden among other work in what was one of Nambour’s historic watering holes.

He said the pub’s new name was inspired by Nambour’s original moniker and had Indigenous origins.

The new pub has a beer garden with television for sport, a family-friendly dining area with a children’s playroom and a front bar where musicians will take centre stage.

“I think a local pub is a real identity of any local town and Nambour has been missing that for a little while,” Mr Allen said.

“Between myself and the other partners we feel we have a real responsibility to bring that back to the town of Nambour, help the area, gentrify a little bit more and welcome families to a space they feel comfortable in.”

The team consists of experienced hospitality staff and Mr Allen said residents were keen to work in the town the lived so they had faced few issues in hiring workers.

Mr Allen said he hoped the community would support the venue.

“We’re welcoming the entire community and anyone from the Sunshine Coast, really, who wants to come and check it out,” he said.

Future plans for the venue include extending the footprint of the pub into the back car park for a space for markets and live music events.
