A teenage boy has been rushed to hospital in serious condition after he fell almost 10m while on fire on the Sunshine Coast.

The boy, in his teens, was reportedly climbing railway infrastructure on Civic Way near Nambour Station when he suffered an electric shock and fell.

Critical care paramedics rushed to the scene at 11am to find the boy in a serious condition.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said the boy sustained significant burns to the lower half of his body.

He was taken to the Sunshine Coast hospital.

Queensland Rail Head of South East Queensland Scott Riedel said the teenager entered the Nambour rail yard before coming into contact with overhead line equipment.

“The overhead line equipment between Traveston and Palmwoods was immediately de-energised,” he said.

“The safety of our customers and employees is Queensland Rail’s number one priority and our thoughts are with the person involved.”

Police are treating it as a mental health incident.
