A tow truck driver was forced to take evasive action to avoid colliding head-on with another vehicle on a busy Sunshine Coast road, dashcam footage reveals.
Clayton’s Towing revealed the dashcam footage as a warning to drivers they need to be aware of their own behaviours – and their surroundings.
General manager Mike Clayton said the situation could have had a “messy ending” had his truck driver and another driver not taken action.
The video reveals a near miss as a car in the overtaking lane leaves it until the final seconds to swerve into its lane.
The truck driver swerved onto the side of the road, and the car travelling in the opposite direction also took action.
“If it wasn’t for the evasive actions of the van that was being overtaken combined with our tow truck moving across, this would have had a very messy ending,” Mr Clayton said.
The incident happened at Roys Rd, Beerwah, which Mr Clayton said was renowned for dangerous overtaking.
“It would’ve been a head-on,” Mr Clayton said.
“It does happen too often this type of thing.
“It’s pretty scary.”
Mr Clayton said it served as a reminder for motorists to be aware of their surroundings.
“It’s just a reminder for people to always be watching ahead of you for people who are doing silly things,” he said.
“You have to be on the ball about what people re doing around you.”
