More than a dozen “rainforest” villas are planned to be added to a $90m residential estate near Forest Glen’s town centre.

Developer Michael Cullen has lodged plans for 15 villas to add to his 20-acre Owen Creek Road development named Azure Estate.

The $90m estate was approved in 2015 and described at the time as a “game changer” for Forest Glen with 90 lots primed for development as well as communal parks, walking tracks and open spaces.

The villas would bookend the townhouse community on Palm Forest Circuit and all feature three-storeys.

An application was lodged with Sunshine Coast Council for the unit development and residents have been invited to have their say on the proposal.

The report said north of the villas was the Forest Glen Town Centre which was being expanded.

Centre board chairman Tony Riddle, of Sancus Property, is behind the masterplanned retail and shopping precinct along with several other local investors including Michael and Roz White of Whites IGA.

A Jetts gym, accounting and business advisory firms, Aboriginal artisan market, takeaway shop and hairdressers have opened as part of the village expansion.

A health and wellbeing precinct and IGA were expected to open in 2022.

The development application said the villas would provide an “alternate form of medium density housing” among the Azure community.

Last year Town Real Morrison sold the first stage of the development, 21 lots, in one weekend when it launched.

There’s now just a handful of lots remaining, starting from $365,000.

“In designing the dwelling product the architect has drawn inspiration from the unique characteristics of the site being situated among established rainforest where the height of adjacent vegetation corresponds with the elevated position of the lot,” it said.

“A range of natural colours and materials have been used in an attempt to set the buildings within the landscape rather than apart from it, and in doing so reinforce the natural features of the site and surrounds.”

Each unit would have a private front or rear yard and a large, semi-closed balcony.
