Sunshine Coast, Noosa’s top-rated primary schools revealed in Better Education analysis

Learning gap between rich and poor students widened during COVID

A private Buderim school has topped the list as the best primary school on the Sunshine Coast according to an independent education website.

Analysis by independent website Better Education has ranked the best Sunshine Coast and Noosa primary schools in almost every suburb.

A total of 29 primary schools – both government and private – are ranked using a score of 0-100 which is based on Year 5 results from 2021.

Matthew Flinders Anglican College in Buderim received a perfect score of 100, while in the same suburb Immanuel Lutheran College achieved a 96 and Buderim Mountain State School received a ranking of 95.

Head of Matthew Flinders Primary Trudi Edwards said she was “extremely proud” of her staff and their ability to prepare students for success.

“For us it validates the work of our fabulous teaching team and their dedication to implementing evidence-informed teaching strategies,” Ms Edwards said.

“It is heartening to know that our students have the best start in their education through developing high levels of literacy and numeracy, all while developing the strong dispositions which enable them to set goals, learn from mistakes and have the resilience to try again.”

There were three school which achieved a score of 99 – Caloundra City Private School, Chancellor State College and Montville State School.

The analysis also looked at the socio-economic status of the students with 100 being the most advantaged.

Each of the top schools on the list were ranked above a 90 in this category.

Better Education is an independently-run site that aims to provide “informative and comparative school results … to parents wanting to make ­choices about schooling for their children”.
