Sunshine Coast, Noosa Covid-19 testing locations and waiting times revealed

Sunshine Coast residents rushing to Covid-19 testing stations are being turned away with some sites recording three-hour long waits. See the full list of testing sites and waiting times here.

‘Very unlikely’ Queensland’s lockdown will end on time

Residents on the Sunshine Coast have been rushing to testing stations with some people reporting they have been waiting for three hours.

The region has been revealed as the potential root of the latest Delta cluster which sent parts of Queensland into its strictest lockdown yet.

Motorists at the testing site in Currimundi reported waiting for two hours with some at the end of the line saying they were told: “Sorry, we’re full.”

There was also a line of cars, stretching over 700m, at a testing station in Nambour with people in the line reporting they had been waiting for more than three hours.

The long queues come as authorities urged people to come forward and get tested if sick after an increase in cases resulted in southeast Queensland’s eight-day lockdown.

School teacher Donna Doolan was at the front of the queue at the Aragorn testing site at Maroochydore on Tuesday.

The Pacific Paradise woman said she’d waited two hours and 40 minutes after being directed to get tested.

She said the wait had been “alright” and she praised the efforts of the staff at the drive through centre.

A staff member at the Aragorn Street site said the average wait time was about two hours.

Sunshine Coast and Noosa were among 11 local government areas placed in what was initially a three-day lockdown over the weekend.

Queensland has recorded 16 new locally acquired cases of Covid-19, taking the current Delta cluster which sent the state’s southeast into lockdown to 47 cases.

Of the new cases announced today, one is linked to Indooroopilly State School, four to Brisbane Grammar, two to Brisbane Girls Grammar and three to Ironside State School.

Five are household contacts and one is the neighbour of a confirmed case.

At least nine of the 16 new cases are young people.

Several prestigious private schools on the Sunshine Coast have been ordered to test all staff and students in a bid to rule out any links to the Brisbane cluster.

Chief health officer Dr Jeannette Young said on Tuesday it remained her aim to lift the lockdown on Sunday at 4pm.

She said for that to happen, she would want to see that any new cases have been in quarantine for their full infectious period.

However, not everyone is obeying the rules.

Sunshine Coast police arrested two people and issued five fines in a bid to crack down on Covid-19 breaches.
