Sunshine Coast councillors reveal interests in register

From rental properties and holiday houses to directing companies, these are the interests and potential conflicts declared by the Sunshine Coast councillors. See the list.

The Sunshine Coast councillors have revealed possible personal conflicts of interest when it comes to community decisions.

Councillors are required to keep a register of interests that may result in future conflicts when it comes to council decisions, from gifted tickets from local sporting clubs to investment properties and political party membership.

These are interests declared by the Sunshine Coast councillors as listed on the council’s website.

Mayor Rosanna Natoli

Mayor Rosanna Natoli’s registered interests include shares in Seven Group Holdings Pty Ltd, Spaceship Capital Limited, Future Waves Energy Solutions Australia Pty Ltd, JNConnect Pty Ltd and Council of Mayors South East Queensland.

Ms Natoli is also a trustee of the Natoli Art Trust and a beneficiary of the Rojo Natoli Family Trust.

She owns one residential property in Palmview and his married to division four councillor, Joe Natoli.

Assets valued at over $5000 include three cars and jewellery.

Division 8 Councillor Taylor Bunnag included 10 companies in which he has shares including Vaneck Australian Resources ETF, Perpetual Limited and Betashares India Quality ETF.

Mr Bunnag owns one property in Yaroomba and five assets valued at more than $5000, including two cars, sporting memorabilia and shares in a horse.

The first-time councillor is also a member of the Queensland branch of the Australian Labor Party and the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union.

He listed the Queensland Law Society, Australian Republican Movement and Qantas Club as other interests that could potentially create a conflict.

Entering his second stint as councillor for division 2, Terry Landsberg, entered a number of possible conflicts on interest in the register.

Mr Landsberg is the director of the company behind a performance venue, Sunshine Coast Event Centre Pty Ltd, and owns a home in Currimundi.

He belongs to the Liberal National Party and is the executive officer of the Windansea Surf Club.

The councillor also listed his daughter’s employment with the council, which began in December last year, as an interest that may cause possible conflict.

In division 7 Councillor Ted Hungerford’s register he declared his shares in Bendigo Bank and CBA among potential conflicts of interest.

Mr Hungerford owns a property in Buderim as well as a rental property in Battery Hill.

The councillor is a member of the Liberal National Party Queensland and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

He also listed two donations made over $500, one made to the Salvation Army and the other to the Buderim Foundation.

First-time Councillor for division 1 Jenny Broderick lists her role as a director at a Sunshine Coast private school, Glasshouse Christian College, as one her main interests on the register.

Ms Broderick also owns two properties on the Sunshine Coast, one 27ha block in Beerwah and another 35ha block in Cooran, which is an investment property.

She is the beneficiary of a trust and lists a caravan and car as assets owned over $5000.

The Sunshine Coast’s division 9 Councillor Maria Suarez declared her shares in Lendlease and role as the alternate director for the Council of Mayors South East Queensland among her interests.

Ms Suarez owns a 5000sq m property in Peregian Beach and has made five donations exceeding $500 to Cystic Fibrosis Qld, Vinnies CEO Sleepout, Our Moon’s Mission, Movember and Lifeline.

She also declared membership to the Coolum Beach Surf Club and the Coolum Peregian RSL Sub Branch, as well as three game tickets gifted by the Sunshine Coast Lightning.

For division 5 Councillor Winston Johnston his role as the director of the insurance brokerage company, Your Insurance Broker Pty Ltd, is listed as an interest on the register.

As for additional sources of income, Mr Johnston declared a YIB Superannuation fund pension, rental income from offices and YIB Insurance Broker Pty Ltd trust distribution.

Mr Johnston owns three properties including commercial offices in Caloundra, a house in Maleny and a holiday home in Woodgate.

He also listed memberships to the Liberal National Party Queensland and the Council of Qld Insurance Brokers.

Division 10 Councillor David Law declared one residential property in Nambour and three corporate tickets he was gifted by the Sunshine Coast Lightning Netball.

Division 4 Councillor Joe Natoli declared an extensive list of gifts from the Sunshine Coast Council on his register of interests, which included tickets a number of galas, sporting games and conferences.

Five gifted game tickets by the Brisbane Lions were also listed.

Mr Natoli declared a residential Palmview property and he is married Mayor Rosanna Natoli.

Council worker turned division 3 Councillor Tim Burns listed a property he owns in Moffat Beach and his additional income to the value of more than $500 per year from a residential lodger.

Mr Burns declared a donation exceeding $500 made to Eagles Wings Australia and membership to the International Association of Community Development.

Councillor for division 6 Christian Dickson owns a property in Palmview and declared his Ford hatchback as an asset valued at more than $5000.

His other declared interests that may present a conflict include the Sporting Shooters Association, North Arm Pistol Club and the Bellflower Croquet Club.
