Loyal customers have rallied behind mega popular venue Rick's Garage as it takes out the crown for the best burger in the region.

Celebrity chef Matt Preston put a call out last week to find the best burger spot on the Coast as part of his Delicious Local push.

The Palmwoods favourite took a strong lead during the voting process and came out on top between 17 other venues in the running.

Owner Ben Jamieson said he was thrilled to hear the restaurant had taken first place on the leaderboard.

"We've been doing it for quite some time now, so it's very reassuring to get rewarded like this," he said.

"We've got an incredible team that worked tirelessly to provide the best burgers on the Sunshine Coast.

"It's awesome for them to be commended in this way."

The family business has been serving the hinterland community for 18 years, first as a petrol station and workshop and now as a specialised burger joint.

Mr Jamieson said the venue prided itself on playing a role in the region's success.

"The most rewarding thing is to just employ so many young local people," he said.

"It's incredible for the hinterland area as well, which should be recognised as having great food."

When it came to crafting the perfect burger, Mr Jamieson said it was about using fresh and high quality ingredients.

"We like supporting local, small producers, so all of our meats, all of our vegetables, our bread is all locally produced and sourced," he said.

"It was part of the business plan that we originally came up with was to give people a taste of the Sunshine Coast hinterland, so they're all local flavours which I think really come through in everything that we provide.

"There's no real secret to it, it's just those local flavours that come through."

With a history of giving back to the community through fundraisers and other ventures, Mr Jamieson said the generosity came full circle during the height of the pandemic.

"We're so lucky to have such a loyal fanbase," he said.

"We do as much as we can to give back to the community and they've been so fantastic in supporting us through the whole Covid situation.

"We've been through some very, very tough times over the last 16 months, but we're so lucky to have such a fantastic group of people working for the business and everyone really rallied together to get through it."

Mr Jamieson told the Daily in April the business had plans to expand its offerings with a new bakery to be built alongside its flagship diner.
