Audi has just released its A3 Sportback with a price starting from $35,600 - matching the recently launched Mercedes-Benz A-Class.
The move has already paid sales dividends for Mercedes. Younger buyers were enticed to the three-pointed star showroom, and in the first three months, Mercedes-Benz sales were up 45% compared with the same time last year.
Audi has high hopes the A3, officially launched on the Sunshine Coast last night at Currimundi, will achieve similar feats.
The four rings has launched a $5 million A3 marketing campaign, including a cheeky "ahead of its class" theme which is a dig at its primary competitor.
On Thursday night an enthusiastic crowd were on hand to check out new A3 in the metal.
Audi Centre Sunshine Coast unveiled the new Sportback at the Currimundi showroom.
"Audi has always been a style leader and the arrival of the new A3 Sportback in Australia sets the trend again," dealer principal Scott Carse said.
